Muddy puddles can be particularly deceptive: They may seem shallow, but if the ground beneath isn\u2019t compact, your vehicle can quickly sink underneath.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9fb11e1\" data-block-id=\"9fb11e1\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">To properly assess whether it\u2019s safe to drive through the water, you may need to step into the water.&nbsp; If you don\u2019t have rubber boots to put on, you\u2019ll have to decide whether you want to re-route or deal with soggy, muddy clothes and shoes for the rest of your journey.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b18f326\" data-block-id=\"b18f326\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Avoid this dilemma by packing waterproof rubber boots with your overlanding gear. And, for overlanders who aren\u2019t ready to invest in a winch or jack yet, a shovel may be their <em>only <\/em>recovery tool.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-d51de62\" data-block-id=\"d51de62\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Whether or not it is okay to rely solely on a shovel for recovery is debatable, and it depends a lot on your style of adventuring and driving capabilities. However, what isn\u2019t debatable is that <strong>your shovel should be capable of serious use<\/strong>. Because water storage containers can be pricey, this is one area that beginners often try to save money on. Instead, they opt for the cheap water bottles you can find in supermarkets.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1e130fc\" data-block-id=\"1e130fc\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The problem with these water bottles is that they are made out of thin plastic. It can easily puncture or burst when bouncing around. The thin plastic also allows vapors to pass through, which is why your potable water can taste like gasoline and dirty socks after a few days in the back of your rig.&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4841e88\" data-block-id=\"4841e88\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">A better solution is to buy proper containers designed for long-term water storage.
