rtt Camping expert level 2

We were beyond excited to head out on our next camping trip with our James Baroud pop-up tent. Everyone had been counting down the days—ready to unplug and get out of the city for a breath of fresh, crisp air!

This time around, we were extra prepared. The bedding was already set up in the tent before we even left: sheets, comforter, wool blanket, and pillows all in place. There’s something truly satisfying about knowing your bed is made and waiting for you—even in the wilderness.

Pro Tip

James Baroud Evasion tent has 7” of room between the roof and the mattress which allows for plenty of storage. It is common to be tired at the time to set up the tent since that usually happens at the end of a day of driving or activities. Therefore, being able to set up the tent within 1 minute and having the bed pre-made is a huge advantage.

set up gets even easier

When we arrived at our camp spot, we felt confident. Daniel popped up the tent in seconds while Mateo climbed in to unzip the windows and let the light in. Both kids quickly found cozy corners to stash a few toys—instant play zones ready to go! Within four minutes, everything was set up. We put our feet up, took deep breaths, and let the stress of the work week melt away. Mateo swung in the hammock, Daniel cracked open a book he’d been excited to start, and Grandpa was so impressed with the quick setup that he started dreaming up his own camping gear wish list.

Simple trips are enjoyable and they are an easy way to prepare everyone for longer, wilder trips.

Watching the kids navigate the tent was its own kind of joy. Mateo climbs the ladder with ease now—no help needed—happily retreating into the tent to build Legos and peek out at the group. Harlow, at three years old, still likes a bit of support at the bottom of the ladder, but she’s fiercely independent too. Honestly, we had to coax her out of the tent just to get her to join us on hikes—she loved it that much.

Letting kids be part of the set up process makes them feel confident around the tent.

Sleeping layout in the tent

Having the bedding already in place made things so much easier at night. On the first night, all four of us slept side by side. Cozy, but a little tight with two small, wiggly kids! By the second night, we tried a new setup—one parent and child on each end. It gave us all more space and worked beautifully. The tent is so roomy and versatile—it really adapts to your family’s needs.

fun and repeat

One of my favorite parts of the trip? Waking up in the tent, unzipping the windows, and just laying there, soaking in the peaceful view. On our last morning, Harlow and I stayed in the tent enjoying the fresh air while Daniel made coffee and Mateo explored outside, building a little nature path with rocks and twigs. Sipping coffee in bed with a mountain view? Absolute heaven. Packing up was just as smooth as the setup. I made the bed in the tent, Daniel popped it down, and just like that—we were on our way home. This trip was everything we needed: simple, smooth, and so refreshing. The best part? Our next one is already on the calendar.
